What to Do at Night in Chengdu
The city has a wide choice of drinking and clubbing venues. The following listed below are just some of the local and expat favourites.
Try to visit Jinli Street at night, the bars and cafés along this charming street provide you with a different atmosphere from that found in the city.
If you seek something light after a long tiring day, Sichuan Opera and karaoke (KTV) are good alternatives.
Bar Street
Bar Street is close to the Fulan River, the street features over 30 street bars serving cheap beer and some western snacks.
The scene in the area is rather relaxed rather than wild but it is good for drinking with friends and chatting. You can ask locals for directions or tell the taxi driver to go to 'Jiu Ba Jie'.
Shamrock Pub
This Irish pub is a good place to meet local expats as well as some locals who are interested in meeting foreigners. The Shamrock Pub also has pool tables, darts, as well as other games. Shamrock is located near the Linshinguan Lu and the US Consulate.
Club 88
Located in Wuhou district on Shao Ling Lu 88 hao, Club 88 is the most famous club in Chengdu. The place is packed and plays both modern western and local tunes with awesome lighting. Clubbers are recommended to get there early to get their own tables. Don't dress down.
MGM
Only around 100 metres from the Tiangfu Square or YanShiKou, MGM is the biggest nightclub in Chengdu and plays heavy house and techno tunes. The majority of the crowd is young and hip locals. The place gets really packed and reaches its peak around 23:00. Open until 01:00 on weekdays and until 02:00 on Friday and Saturday nights.
Babi I
Babi I features R&B and chilled music. The crowd here is very friendly, so try to chat with them and they will usually be receptive and invite you to join their group or offer a drink. Babi I is located on Er Huan Lu San Duan 18 Hao, in the southern part of the city near Wuhou, Tongzilin, and Yulin districts.
Highfly Café
Highfly Café serves beer, western snacks and some standard dishes like pizza and pasta. The place maintains a relaxing environment with a tiny outside sitting space. There is Internet access for guests as well as a small collection of books. It also opens for breakfast and is located on LinJiang Road.
Café Paname
Café Paname has a laidback and comfortable atmosphere with some mellow tunes. The bar is more packed during Friday and Saturday when DJs are occasionally invited to entertain the younger crowd.
