Where and What to Eat in Dalian

The well known seaport city of Dalian brings to the visitor’s plate everything that makes it unique. Straddling mainland China to its left and the East China Sea to its right, Dalian’s cuisine bears a reflection of its thriving marine industry and the culinary accents of its nearby Asiatic neighbours.

Despite being a relatively young city, vibrant Dalian features a lot of Chinese history in its cuisine. Many restaurants offer the discerning traveler a window into China’s past, particularly its more rural traditions with classic flavors, textures and cooking methods. The pleasant locals, thriving business, tourism and pleasant weather make Dalian a wonderful place to sit down and enjoy the culinary delights that come with the unique geographic, historical and cultural features of this city.

Dining in Dalian typically reflects Dongbei traditions as well as a reflection of their thriving seaport. Dalian’s seafood is well worth a try, as is the plethora of local restaurants and flavors that undoubtedly have a lot to offer. Located close to both the Korean peninsula as well as Japan, you are likely to find both influences in the local cuisine as well as restaurant choices, ranging from the elegant and upscale to the affordable and even quirky. Those who prefer western cuisine should not feel left out, however as Dalian has a wide selection for them as well.
