What to Do in Canton

Guangzhou Activities

As Guangzhou is one of the busiest centres of commerce in China, there are many things one can do when in town. Must-dos on your list should include the Pearl River cruise dinner, and trying the local teahouses for a real taste of China’s famous tea.

If you love golf, there are plenty of golf courses to choose from. It is said that Guangzhou is the very first city in China that hosted this sport.

The Pearl River Cruise Dinner

The Pearl River Cruise Dinner

This is a fun and a kind of romantic way to see the Zhujiang (Pearl River) at night and the evening cruise on the Pearl River is one of Guangzhou's tourist highlights.

The cruise section from the White Goose Pool to Guangzhou Bridge is wonderful, with jade-coloured water and coloured lights on shore. The food is buffet style and the trip lasts about 90 minutes and starts at 18:30.

Visit a Teahouse

Herbal tea has long time been enjoyed by Guangzhou people, especially in the morning. Wang Laoji Herbal Tea is the most famous tea in this area. It is said that herbal tea can alleviate summer heat and cure sore throats caused by winter dryness.

Teahouses are busy by 11:00 in the morning. Serving Tea requires strict attention to the teapot, tea leaves, water quality and even how to pour and drink the tea. The teapot in use is as small as a fist and the teacup as small as half a ping pong ball.

Rock Climbing

Rock Climbing

Rock Climbing is quite new in China but it is a fast-growing sport. There are a few places to choose from in this area including Baiyun Shan in Guangzhou and Yan Yan in Huaijin, a county in western Guangdong.
