This is one of the most convenient options for someone looking to visit a place on the outskirts of Guilin. Beihai has two things to offer you: an amazing beach famous for its silver sands, and a cool hangout in the Underwater World.

The beach is at least a mile long and offers a great place for relaxation and sunbathing. Whether it's a couple looking for a romantic place where they can hold hands and go for a walk or a family looking for a great place for their kids to play, Beihai does the job.

Double Rivers and Four Lakes

Where else will you find six water bodies offering a breathtaking view as part of one tourist destination? Yes, Double Rivers and Four Lakes comprises of Mulong Lake, the Rong Lake, Gui Lake, Shan Lake, the Taohua River, and the Li River. This group of amazing and natural scenic wonders is maintained by the government in order to provide a great place for tourists to walk about and enjoy.

Elephant Trunk Hill

This amazing site is situated right at the spot where Li and Yang rivers meet. It derives its name -- Elephant Trunk Hill -- from the shape of the hill, which resembles an elephant drinking water with its trunk immersed in the water.

The sheer beauty of this place combined with the view that the Precious Bottle Tower -- or the Sword Handle Tower -- makes it a memorable experience.

Gudong Waterfall

This waterfall is located in the largest forest park in Guilin. The specialty of this waterfall is that people can safely be around it and play in the water quite unlike most other places where due to safety issues people have to watch them from a distance. Autumn is the perfect time to visit this place.

Two of the most famous attractions of this place are the Xi Shan Park and a mountain climb near it. Not a mountain person? Don't worry. This mountain climb is one of the easiest; more like a walk in the woods. This is one of the best places that features a rich tapestry of Chinese flora and fauna.

If you are a history buff, you could go further north and visit Jintiancun, the birth place of the leader of Taipeng Rebellion, Hong Xiuquan.

Longji Terraced Fields

The name “Terraced Fields” itself makes this place sound like a very promising location; however, another famous fact about this place also happens to be the long hair of women who live in this region.

Longji Terraced Fields are located in Longsheng in a town named Heping. A mere two hours drive from Guilin, this Guinness Book entrant is well worth a visit. We were sold right when we took one look at those terraced fields. 

Coming back to the long hair part, did you know that some of these women here have such long hair that it touches the ground! In fact, this is what put this small town on the pages of the Guinness Book.

Reed Flute Caves

These caves have reed at their mouth, which people believed could be turned into flutes. That pretty much explains the origin of their name. This place is also known as “the Palace of Natural Arts.” Again, the root of this name lies in the natural scenic beauty of the cave.

The Reed Flute Caves also have a lot of history and legends around them. In other words, a visit to Guilin would not be complete without a visit to these caves.

Seven Star Park

This park contains seven peaks that resemble the Big Dipper Constellation, hence the name. Located towards the east of the Li-River, this park contains a number of attractions, not the least of which is Camel Hill. Another unique aspect of this place is that the cave -- the Seven Star Cave -- in this park always has a constant temperature of 20 degrees Celsius. It has also been a popular destination for tourists since the days of the Tang Dynasty.

The Silver Cave

These magnificent caves run through 12 mountains. They derive their name from the shimmering silvery stalactites all over the place that form an integral part of their natural beauty. Up to 2 kms of distance in the caves can be covered on a boat. The caves are divided into three sections and contain a number of beautiful scenes worth capturing on a camera.

The Silver Cave area has only recently been opened to tourists and has already become one of the most visited places in Guilin.

Wupaihe Rafting

Also known as the Xunjiang river, the Wupai river is the second largest river in the Ziyuan County. When you go rafting along this river, expect to cover a distance of around 30 kms all the way from Chetian to Hekou. For all the adrenaline junkies out there, the deep gorges and lush terrain that this rafting trip affords are just priceless.
