Chapter One

More of a home-like hangout than a bar, Chapter One has free internet and a reasonably good library of books in various European languages. Serves Indian food.

Cobra Disco

Busy, often even on weeknights, Cobra Disco is one of Kunming's most popular nightclubs. The music plays very late (or early) to a mainly a local crowd.

Halfway House

A popular option for late night drinks. Generally a relaxed atmosphere, from 21:00 on Mondays its open mic. Located about 20m south of Speakeasy, look for the red sign showing three peaks.

Speakeasy

One of the most popular bars in Kunming that attracts large crowds. Located in a basement below an internet cafe it features pool tables, a stage for live music and a dance floor which is often full at weekends.

DJs play various kinds of music throughout the week.

The Box

Frequented by Kunming's expats, especially Italians, this snug bar and restaurant is known for great pizzas and sangria. Hump Pub A lively spot at weekends frequented by tourists and featuring live music.

Dynamic Yunnan

A pleasing alternative to the bar and club scene is Dynamic Yunnan, a grand music, dance and special effects performance that takes its influences from Yunnan's ethnic culture.

Created by Yangliping who is both the central performer and director, it is split into seven scenes, each with a different theme; namely moon, forests, clouds, sun, feathers, mountains and fire.
