Located at an altitude of 3,490 metres - one of the highest cities in the world - Lhasa is the administrative capital of Tibet. Lhasa means "Place of the Gods", and is the birthplace of Tibetan Buddhism. Consequently, Lhasa offers many religious sites, temples and palaces.
