Where to Shop and What to Buy in Lijiang

Lijiang Shopping

Shops in Lijiang usually open very early and stay open until around 23:00. Just like most cities in China, visitors should bargain when shopping and visitors never accept the original price.

Shops here sell various kinds of decorations and handicrafts including jewels, paper lanterns, beautiful batiks, local handicrafts such as knitted shawls of the Naxi Group and other selections of Naxi and Tibetan clothes.

The most popular items are Naxi bracelets and necklaces carved with ancient Dongba hieroglyphs. Other interesting souvenirs are local wines: U Wine's history can be traced back to the Ming Dynasty. Sulima Wine is specially prepared by Mosuo people who live northeast of Lijiang City.

All these can easily be found in the Old Town and at the shopping center in the Square Street. Li Yin (Li's Silver) sells many kinds of hand-crafted silver ornaments and Yun Cha Zhuang tea shop, on Dongda Street, features more than 40 varieties of pu-erh tea, including loose leaves in jars, packets and tins.
